Betty joined the team as a Senior Planet Trainer based in San Antonio during the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Previously she spent 25 years working in a variety of education roles –  as a teacher, a Language Arts coordinator, an ESL Director, a Principal, and lastly as an instructional coach.

What’s one of your favorite things about being a Senior Planet trainer?

Seeing the joy in my student’s faces when they accomplish a task that their family members typically would help them with.  Helping my students to get over their “technology fear” is my favorite thing about being a trainer.

Do you have any favorite stories or pieces of advice you find yourself sharing a lot in class?

Something I like to share with my students is that everyone can learn, and all of us are continuously learning because technology is continuously changing. I just completed teaching iPad Essentials multi-week class; one student confided in me that she struggled her whole life learning and was never smart growing up – well at the completion of the five weeks she is helping other seniors with their iPad.

Helping my students to get over their “technology fear” is my favorite thing about being a trainer.

What are some passions you have outside of work?

Some of my passions outside of work is spending time with my boys, lately most of my time now is spent only with my husband (who is my high school sweetheart) we are now empty nesters. We enjoy taking our travel trailer out, although we would love to take it out more. I have a passion for reality TV, I am truly a reality TV junkie or good rom com.

What does Aging with Attitude mean to you?

Aging with Attitude means to encourage individuals to embrace the aging process with confidence, strength, and a sense of purpose. Rather than viewing aging as a negative experience, “aging with attitude” emphasizes the potential for personal growth, fulfillment, and continued engagement with life.
