Rushseba Senior Living, located in Rush City, is a tight-knit, welcoming community. And for residents like Karen, Berniece, and Darlene, the care and support they receive makes all the difference. With Parkinson’s diagnoses, these women all moved to Rushseba because of the high-quality care offered in partnership with the Struthers Parkinson’s Center. Here’s what they had to say…

“When my family and I decided it was time for me to move, they thought I would enjoy being with the people here—and that’s true. I’m meeting new people, and I run into old friends. Right away, I joined the Parkinson’s support group. It’s interesting to listen to other people who are dealing with the same things. Some of them have had Parkinson’s longer than I have, so they have a different story to tell. It’s enlightening to me. Because I’m in the early stages, I don’t need much help… but the fact that there is help available when it’s needed is reassuring. Plus, I love my apartment, and my family can come visit often.” — Berniece

Rushseba hosts a Parkinson’s support group each month, where attendees can learn from experts, hear from others, gain education, and find help for the journey. Support for residents doesn’t stop there, though. Multiple team members at Rushseba are trained as Champions by Struthers. For Karen, this expertise also provides peace of mind.

karen“When my husband passed away, I knew I needed to move closer to my son and daughter-in-law. They started to research senior communities, and we thought Rushseba seemed like the best fit. One thing that really stood out was the special training team members receive about Parkinson’s. Then, once I arrived, I felt welcomed right away. The residents care for each other, and I have a wonderful view. The team works hard to keep us stable, and they offer a support group, exercise, and music therapy. I learn what I can do to improve my wellbeing, and I can take initiative, but others are there to help me, too.” —Karen

Finally, Darlene appreciates the combination of quality care and compassionate support. As a former nurse, she’s cared for Parkinson’s patients herself—but she’s the first to say that she can always learn something new.

darlene“When I received my diagnosis, I knew quite a bit about Parkinson’s. But, I have learned so much by attending the support group. We learn together, talk about our experiences, and ask questions. We help each other. I’m so glad I can attend this group in my own home. The team is good and kind, and the community is calm. I’m satisfied and feel supported.” — Darlene
