New! Senior Planet Launches Qigong Flow Class
Senior Planet is about more than just technology, it’s a community of older adults who are #AgingWithAttitude! For many, that means using platforms like Zoom and technology like fitness trackers to stay active and healthy as we age…but it also includes trying new, unique ways to stay healthy. That’s why Senior Planet has launched a new fitness class – Qigong Flow – that meets every Friday at 9am ET. Qigong Flow is an ancient Chinese gentle exercise series for body, mind and spirit – and a calm yet energizing start to your day.
How does Qigong work?
The program, led by popular fitness trainer Deb Gunn, includes a warm-up, followed by a gentle follow-along qigong flow. The movements are coordinated with deep breathing and focused attention to help sync the body, mind, and breath.
“This is a flow session that will help you relax and energize at the same time,” says Deb. “You don’t need any prior knowledge and there’s nothing to memorize, just follow along.”

If you’ve practiced Tai Chi before, some of these movements might be familiar to you. If you’ve never tried any form of Qigong or Tai Chi, not to worry. This class is welcoming to compete beginners, and no special equipment is required. Deb’s setup even includes a mirror so you can see the positions from multiple angles.
Of course, as with any Senior Planet fitness program, please consult your physician or other healthcare professional to determine if it is right for your needs.
“The benefits are immeasurable…physically AND emotionally,” continues Deb. “All of the movements can be modified to your own body and ranges of motion. We also listen to some pretty great relaxing music too.”
After the 45-minute class, there is also a chance to socialize with the group and share about your life and fitness journey.
“I love this community. We try to spend time at the end of our class, checking in with each other. If someone needs some support, we all give that, sometimes we just chat and share stories.. Deb says. “Also, this particular class is all about cultivating new fresh healing energy in your body. Some people notice a difference after just one session. I for one feel energized, and at the same time relaxed and ready to have a great day.”
